Morocco’s central bank is working to address difficulties in processing money transfers from Moroccans living abroad. Bank Al-Maghrib Director General, Abdellatif Jouahri, highlighted stricter regulations imposed on Moroccan bank branches operating within the European Union as a major obstacle to these remittances. He made the statement during an event commemorating the International Day of Family Remittances in Rabat. The tightening of rules for intermediary financial activities is impacting the national remittance system. Moroccan authorities are closely monitoring the situation and seeking solutions to ensure continued smooth money transfers. Remittances from Moroccans abroad are a significant contributor to the Moroccan economy. The bank aims to facilitate these flows despite the evolving regulatory landscape.
