Mongolia’s Energy Minister, B. Naidalaa, presented findings from a review of ten renewable energy agreements – three wind and seven solar – to the government. The initial agreements were deemed relatively expensive, ranging from 9.5 to 17.3 cents per kilowatt-hour. Rather than direct procurement, the government has decided to hold open tenders to revise and potentially sell existing contracts, aiming to lower costs. An auction process has identified 19 companies capable of developing solar power plants in five provinces. These companies were selected from an initial pool of 115 applicants. The Ministry of Energy will conduct an open-price auction on June 18, 2026, to select five companies, with 25-year contracts awarded to those offering the lowest bids. The move aims to optimize renewable energy investments and secure more favorable pricing.
