Mongolia has increased its total planting area for key crops to 336,100 hectares as of late May, a 2.5% rise compared to the same period last year. Grain accounts for the largest portion of this increase, covering 262,300 hectares, followed by potatoes at 8,200 hectares and vegetables at 5,700 hectares. While planting of technical crops decreased by 19,300 hectares, areas dedicated to grain, potatoes, and fodder crops expanded by 24,800, 1,500, and 17,900 hectares respectively. The National Statistics Office of Mongolia reported these figures, indicating a shift in agricultural focus. This expansion aims to bolster domestic food production and potentially reduce reliance on imports. The overall increase suggests a positive trend in Mongolia’s agricultural sector this year.
