Malaysia’s Minister of Law and Institutional Reform, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, plans to request funding in the 2027 national budget to broaden access to legal aid services. The proposed allocation will be used to establish additional satellite offices of the Legal Aid Department (JBG) throughout the country’s rural areas. This initiative aims to improve legal assistance for underserved communities. Currently, access to legal representation can be limited for those residing outside of urban centers. The expansion intends to address this disparity and ensure more equitable access to justice. Further details regarding the number of new offices and specific locations will be determined following budget approval. The Minister highlighted the importance of reaching remote populations with vital legal support.
