This event is held to commemorate the 2010 plane crash near Smolensk, Russia, which killed Polish President Lech Kaczyński and numerous other high-ranking officials. PiS officials believe his actions, though unconventional, serve a purpose in defending what they consider the “truth about Smolensk.”
