Macedonian director Dina Duma is challenging traditional filmmaking approaches to stories about marginalized communities. She intentionally chose to create a film *with* the Romani community, rather than *about* them, to avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes. Duma focused her film on the personal story of her sister, Adela, their mother, and their experiences within the Romani community. This involved actively including community members throughout the filmmaking process, ensuring authentic representation. Duma's approach aims to move beyond typical portrayals and present a genuine depiction of the challenges and lives of real people. The director hopes her film will foster understanding and respect through collaborative storytelling. This project highlights the growing movement towards more inclusive and representative cinema.
