A rare 17th-century engraving by Czech artist Václav Hollar, titled “Jerusalem,” has been returned to the villa of former Czechoslovak President Edvard Beneš and his wife Hana in Sezimovo Ústí. The artwork adorned the villa until 1938, when Hana Benešová gifted it to relatives as she and her husband went into exile in London. The descendants of those relatives have now decided to return the engraving to its original location. The piece is a significant part of the villa’s historical collection and represents a connection to the Beneš family’s legacy. Its return is being celebrated as a restoration of cultural heritage. The engraving’s journey reflects the tumultuous history of the Beneš family during the pre-war and wartime periods. The villa itself is a historical landmark and museum dedicated to the life and work of the former president.
