The Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. has turned green due to an algal bloom, shortly after a recent repainting ordered by former President Donald Trump. The pool’s bottom was coated with a blue paint resembling pool paint, a decision that previously drew criticism from preservationists and the public. Now, the National Park Service is adding hydrogen peroxide to combat the algae. Simultaneously, the new coating is reportedly peeling. The original paint job was defended by Trump, who claimed the shade of blue mirrored the American flag. Concerns were also raised regarding the no-bid contract awarded for the repairs to a company with ties to Trump’s golf club.
