Uruguay’s state utility company, Jutep, has publicly condemned statements made by opposition lawmakers, alleging discriminatory behavior and undue influence. The Jutep board majority claims Deputy Juan Martín Rodríguez discriminated against a public servant based on her political affiliation with the Frente Amplio (FA) party, and further accused him of publicly condoning violence against women. Simultaneously, Senator Manini Calabria alleges that Deputy Ferraris had already formed an opinion regarding a separate case, involving “Danza”, before it was officially discussed. These accusations have sparked internal controversy and prompted Jutep to issue a formal repudiation of the “offensive expressions.” The allegations center on conduct within the Uruguayan Parliament and potential predetermination of decisions regarding ongoing cases. Both incidents are currently under scrutiny, raising questions about ethical standards and impartiality among legislators.
