Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated, according to Interfax, that Western accusations of Moscow’s involvement in a drone incident in Leipzig constitute the beginning of a “real war.” The German government attributes the August hybrid attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport to Russia, allegations which Russia denies. On August 4th, an airport employee near a Ukrainian Antonov aircraft discovered a drone containing explosives, though its detonator was non-functional. The incident took place at the airport in Leipzig/Halle, eastern Germany. Lavrov’s statement escalates tensions surrounding the event and reflects a strong rebuke of the accusations leveled against Moscow. This comes as relations between Russia and Germany remain strained amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
