Farmers in Limbaži, Latvia have achieved an early watermelon harvest, preceding the traditional Midsummer holiday. Mareks and Aija Kantāni, of Kantāni gardens, reported the successful yield to Latvian Television. While cheese and beer are customary staples of the Midsummer table, these locally-grown watermelons are taking center stage this year. The harvest is occurring before the official Midsummer celebrations begin. This represents an unusual and noteworthy addition to the traditional Latvian festivities. The Kantāni’s early success highlights innovative local farming practices.
