An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has extended the physical remand of PTI leader Hammad Azhar by 12 days concerning the attack on Jinnah House, linked to the May 9 riots following former prime minister Imran Khan’s arrest. Sarwar Road police allege Azhar led the attack and seek to conduct a polygraph test. Defence counsel Sikandar Zulqarnain opposed the extension, highlighting inconsistencies in the police’s claims regarding recovered evidence, initially stating items were found, then claiming they were still outstanding. He argued that the investigation had stalled despite 37 days of physical remand, requesting judicial remand for his client. The state prosecutor countered that the FIR doesn't confirm Azhar’s absence, suggesting he could have been overlooked at the scene. Hammad Azhar himself stated before the court that anti-terrorism laws are being misused for political reasons, asserting the court’s dignity should be preserved.
