A new program in Kiambu County is providing formal accreditation to experienced construction workers lacking official certification. Implemented by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) under the Wezesha Vijana initiative, the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program aims to integrate skilled laborers into the Affordable Housing Programme. The initiative partners with the Safaricom Foundation and Boma to assess and certify workers’ existing skills. Registration for the program recently took place in Kiambu Town, offering a pathway to formal employment and career advancement. This effort addresses a skills gap within the construction industry and supports the government’s housing goals. The RPL program seeks to validate the practical experience of workers who may not have traditional qualifications. Ultimately, the program aims to boost the quality and professionalism of the construction workforce.
