Kenya is working to meet World Health Organization (WHO) standards for pharmaceutical regulation, aiming for Maturity Level 3 (ML3) status by December 2026. Achieving ML3 certification would signify a strengthened national system for ensuring the quality and safety of medicines and vaccines. This initiative is expected to encourage local pharmaceutical manufacturing and improve access to essential medical products for the population. The Ministry of Health is leading the regulatory reforms necessary to meet the WHO’s Global Benchmarking Tool requirements. Successful certification would position Kenya as a regional leader in pharmaceutical quality assurance. The move is anticipated to foster greater trust in locally produced medications and attract investment in the sector. Ultimately, the goal is to improve public health outcomes through a more robust and reliable pharmaceutical supply chain.
