A businessman in Kampala, Arvind Patel, has been ordered by the High Court to pay Shs 1.1 billion (approximately $960,000 USD) in outstanding interest on loans totaling Shs 330 million (approximately $288,000 USD) from Prime Finance Company Limited. The court found Patel in breach of his loan agreements due to non-payment. In addition to the outstanding interest, Patel was ordered to pay Shs 20 million (approximately $17,500 USD) in aggravated damages to the lender. The judgement stems from a dispute over the repayment of the loans obtained from Prime Finance Company Limited. This ruling underscores the importance of adhering to financial agreements in Kampala’s business sector. The case highlights the legal recourse available to lenders in Uganda when borrowers default on their obligations.
