Japan announced Friday it will increase single-entry visa fees from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen (approximately $18.6 to $93) starting in July. This marks the first fee revision since 1978, attributed to the weakening yen and rising inflation. Multiple-entry visa fees will also be tripled, rising from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen. Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi stated the government anticipates minimal impact on tourism despite the significant price increase. The adjustment aims to align Japan’s visa costs with those of other G7 nations. The government frames the increase as a necessary economic measure responding to current financial conditions. Kyodo News reported the decision.
