Italian police have conducted raids on the offices of eleven luxury fashion brands, including Chanel, Bulgari, and Moncler, as part of an investigation into potential complicity in the exploitation of textile workers. The investigation focuses on the production of handbags and allegations that the brands utilized subcontractors employing Chinese laborers under harsh conditions. Authorities discovered products bearing the logos of these brands at two factories near Milan previously raided in May, where workers lacked proper documentation and faced unsafe, unsanitary, and degrading living conditions with extremely low wages. Brands have been asked to provide documentation detailing their supply chains and labor practices. Brunello Cucinelli stated they found no serious issues in their checks, while other companies will be required to demonstrate sufficient measures to prevent exploitation or face judicial oversight. These raids are part of a growing trend, with similar investigations previously targeting Dior and Armani, putting pressure on the “Made in Italy” label.
