Glaciers in the Issyk-Kul basin of Kyrgyzstan have significantly decreased in size over the past seven to nine decades. According to data released by Kyrgyzhydromet, the national meteorological service, the glacial area has shrunk by 33.7 percent. This substantial loss indicates a rapid rate of glacial melt within the region. The findings were reported by the Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The data highlights the impact of climate change on Central Asia’s glacial landscapes.
