New data from the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reveals limited progress in the integration of refugees since the implementation of a revised integration law in 2022. The research indicates that many refugees continue to face obstacles in completing the integration process. Despite the new legislation, there has been no noticeable improvement in successful integration rates. A key point of contention is the financial support provided during integration; critics argue that refugees should be directed towards employment rather than receiving benefits from day one. VVD parliament member Bente Becker discussed the findings, highlighting ongoing concerns about the effectiveness of the current system. The CBS study suggests a need for reevaluation of the integration policies and their implementation to better support refugees in becoming self-sufficient and contributing members of Dutch society. The findings raise questions about the law’s ability to achieve its intended goals.
