Indonesia’s Statistics Agency (BPS) has clarified that the planned 2026 Economic Census will not be used for taxation purposes. Deputy Head Sonny Harmadi stated the census is designed to comprehensively map all business establishments across the country, providing detailed economic data. This data will be crucial for evidence-based policymaking, regional development planning, and understanding Indonesia’s economic structure. The census will collect information on business activity, employment, and revenue, but this information will not be shared with the tax authorities. BPS emphasized the importance of public cooperation to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the collected data. The agency aims to create a robust database to support sustainable economic growth and informed decision-making at all levels of government. This census is a regular undertaking, with the last one conducted in 2016.
