Indonesia is set to include digital content creators under the Indonesian Standard Classification of Business Fields (KBLI) in 2025, effectively requiring them to obtain a Business Identification Number (NIB). Economist Adiwarman Karim from the University of Indonesia suggests this move presents new opportunities for Indonesian digital Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The inclusion within KBLI aims to formally recognize and regulate the growing digital economy and its participants. This regulation will impact a wide range of online creators, from social media influencers to bloggers and video producers. Authorities anticipate the licensing process will facilitate access to financial services and support programs for these businesses. The move is intended to foster a more structured and sustainable digital ecosystem within Indonesia, bringing clarity to taxation and legal frameworks. This policy change signifies a broader effort to integrate the informal digital sector into the formal economy.
