Construction of the Barskoon-Bedel highway in Kyrgyzstan is underway amidst exceptionally challenging conditions. The project navigates altitudes exceeding 4,000 meters, presenting difficulties from permafrost, glaciers, and avalanche zones. Complicated geological conditions and a limited construction season further complicate the 161-kilometer build. Approximately 110 kilometers of the road will be situated above 3,000 meters, making it one of the highest highways in the region. Road builders themselves describe the environment as extreme, necessitating specialized techniques and materials. The completed highway is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the area despite the formidable obstacles.
