Africa Policy Lens (APL) is advocating for an immediate amendment to Section 25 of Ghana’s Gold Board Act of 2025. The proposed change aims to solidify the mandates of institutions within the mining sector and prevent financial inefficiencies stemming from overlapping responsibilities. APL’s call follows a recent agreement signed by the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) with the Forestry Commission and Ghana Armed Forces. This agreement focuses on the reclamation of 50 hectares of the degraded Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve. The think tank believes clarifying legal frameworks is crucial for effective resource management and preventing duplicated efforts. The amendment is intended to streamline operations and ensure accountability within Ghana’s gold industry. Ultimately, APL argues the change will safeguard public funds and promote sustainable mining practices.
