A parliamentary committee in Norway has issued a strong rebuke to former Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl regarding insufficient follow-up to warnings from the Police Security Service (PST) about inadequate security funding. The criticism centers on a failure to address PST’s budgetary needs, hindering its ability to respond effectively to the evolving geopolitical landscape. This censure, known as a “daddelvedtak,” represents the most severe form of parliamentary criticism short of a vote of no confidence. Committee leader Per-Willy Amundsen described the case as warranting exceptionally strong condemnation. While directed at Mehl, the committee’s criticism ultimately falls on the current government led by Jonas Gahr Støre. The committee was not unanimous in its decision, but a majority agreed on the need for the strong censure. The issue concerns the government’s preparedness for current security challenges.
