Recent reports indicate that campaign events held by Hungary’s Fidesz party in Orosháza were financially supported by a local foundation. This foundation received 100 million forints – equivalent to a substantial sum – in grants from the National Cultural Fund. The fund operates with a 17-billion-forint budget, the details of which have been largely undisclosed. Notably, one event featured a booked circus, ostensibly to incorporate a “cultural element.” Critics suggest this represents a misuse of public funds intended for cultural initiatives, diverting them towards partisan political activities. Five separate campaign events benefited from this funding mechanism. The arrangement raises questions about transparency and the appropriate use of state resources during election periods.
