Authorities discovered fireworks and a possible pipe bomb inside a building slated to become a temporary asylum center in Nuenen, Netherlands. The discovery was made during furniture installation at the site, which is undergoing renovation to house up to 159 asylum seekers this summer. Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams were dispatched to investigate. The planned center has faced significant local opposition, with over a thousand objections filed, though the municipality has approved a slightly modified version of the project, promising 24/7 security and accessibility for residents. Despite these assurances, a group of opponents recently took their case to court, seeking to halt the opening due to its proximity to a residential area. Additionally, some windows of the building were found damaged. Police have cordoned off the area and are conducting further investigations.
