A record-breaking heatwave sweeping across Europe has reached Germany and Italy, following extreme temperatures in Britain, France, and Switzerland. Germany registered a preliminary record high of 41.3°C near Saarbruecken, prompting nationwide extreme heat warnings and calls for water conservation. Italy has issued red alerts for 18 cities, anticipating temperatures up to 39°C. The heatwave, linked to dozens of deaths in France, is disrupting transportation, power supplies, and prompting event cancellations, including modifications to the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt. Scientists attribute the intensity of the heatwave to human-induced climate change, making such extreme temperatures significantly more probable. The system is expected to continue moving eastward towards Poland.
