A rare summer hailstorm transformed the Valle del Bove on the slopes of Mount Etna into a white landscape on Wednesday. The unusual phenomenon was caused by a downburst, a powerful meteorological event involving rapidly descending, high-speed winds from a thunderstorm. Upon impact with the ground, these winds spread outwards, creating the appearance of snow-covered terrain. Wind speeds associated with the downburst reportedly exceeded 150 km/h in some areas. This event is considered unusual for the summer months in the region. Authorities have not reported any damage or injuries related to the hailstorm and downburst. The spectacle drew attention to the powerful weather systems that can develop around the volcano.
