Estonia is centralizing its key public information technology services through a phased agency merger. The State IT Center (RIT) and the Information System Authority (RIA) will initially combine operations. Subsequently, the State Infocommunication Foundation (RIKS) will be integrated into the newly formed agency within three years. This consolidation aims to improve efficiency and coordination of Estonia’s digital infrastructure, which is a cornerstone of the nation’s public services. The move reflects a broader strategy to strengthen cybersecurity and streamline digital governance. Officials anticipate the unified agency will enhance service delivery and reduce redundancy in IT operations. The Estonian government views this as a crucial step in maintaining its position as a digital leader.
