The city of Enschede held a final concert for its iconic 130-year-old city organ, “De Tukker,” on Saturday afternoon. The organ, a cherished landmark, is leaving the city permanently following damage sustained in a fireworks-related incident. Organist Benno Molenkamp concluded the performance with the Argentinian tango “Adios Muchachos,” evoking emotional responses from attendees of all ages. While the organ survived the initial fireworks mishap, it is now deemed beyond repair and unable to continue functioning. Residents expressed sadness at the loss of the “rambling box,” as it was affectionately known. The organ’s departure marks the end of an era for the Twente city and its musical heritage.
