Police in Heerlen have arrested five individuals suspected of involvement in a series of thefts at a home goods store. Three of those arrested were employees of the store itself. The investigation began after a theft was reported, with police reviewing security footage which revealed a suspect repeatedly leaving the store with more merchandise than paid for. Authorities believe the suspect was aided by the store’s staff, allowing them to successfully exit with unpaid items. Five suspects – a 19-year-old woman from Kerkrade, a 51-year-old woman from Heerlen, and three men from Heerlen aged 20, 25, and 31 – were initially detained. Four suspects have since been released, while the 31-year-old man is being brought before a judge. The three former employees involved have been terminated from their positions; the name of the store has not been released.
