Vietnam’s Education Minister, Hoang Minh Son, has announced a strategy to alleviate pressure on students competing for placement in the 10th grade – the entry point to upper secondary school. The core of the plan focuses on expanding educational opportunities for students, aiming to reduce the intensity of the entrance exam process. Minister Son believes that increased access to learning will naturally lessen competition and, consequently, diminish the need for supplementary tutoring. This approach is intended as a fundamental solution to address the challenges associated with private tutoring and the overall strain on the education system. The Ministry hopes this will create a more equitable and less stressful environment for students preparing for high school. By broadening the scope of educational pathways, the government seeks to resolve issues stemming from the current high-stakes examination system. This initiative represents a shift towards a more holistic and accessible educational landscape.
