An Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is severely straining an already fragile healthcare system, particularly in the Ituri province. This region is experiencing ongoing violent conflict between local self-defense militias. The General Hospital of Fataki, a key medical facility, is overwhelmed with casualties from the fighting. However, the Ebola crisis is disrupting the hospital’s ability to provide adequate care for war-related injuries. Congolese authorities report that 95% of Ebola cases are concentrated in Ituri. The combined pressures of conflict and disease are creating a critical healthcare emergency, leaving wounded individuals vulnerable to preventable complications and death.
