While declining to speculate on perpetrators, the minister indicated a likely criminal settling of accounts involving international gangs and drug cartels operating across borders. Thirty-four individuals from the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Algeria were apprehended. Van Weel dismissed the notion that the Netherlands is becoming a "narco-state," but acknowledged the establishment of deeply rooted organized crime by figures like Ridouan Taghi and Jos Leijdekkers. Investigations are ongoing, with Jos Leijdekkers' name surfacing in media reports as a potential connection to the violence. Police have stated the immediate threat to residents has passed.
