Thousands participated in a silent procession in Axel, Netherlands, to honor the four victims – three children and their school principal – who died after being struck by a car while cycling to a school trip. The procession began in Axel and concluded at the victims’ elementary school, De Warande, where a two-minute silence was observed. Participants were encouraged to wear white and bring stuffed animals as tributes. The accident occurred on the N290 near Terhole, when a car veered off the road and hit a group of fourteen schoolchildren and two adult supervisors, leaving three other children injured. A 19-year-old driver is in custody as authorities investigate the cause of the crash. A fundraising campaign for the victims’ families rapidly exceeded its goal, raising over €124,000. The collected funds will support funeral costs and provide support to the school community.
