A recent study has revealed a growing trend of delivery drivers using their motorcycles to illegally transport passengers. Despite being prohibited, approximately one in ten delivery drivers on application-based platforms are offering rides to customers. This practice utilizes platforms designed for product delivery for unauthorized passenger transport. Evidence suggests this illegal rideshare activity is actively promoted through social media channels. Authorities are concerned about safety and regulatory issues stemming from this trend. The study highlights a gap in regulation and enforcement concerning the use of delivery services for purposes beyond their intended scope. This poses risks to both passengers and drivers, lacking the necessary insurance and safety standards of legitimate ride-hailing services.
