The Orlík Reservoir in the Czech Republic is facing potential closure of its water gates due to critically low water levels. Current inflow is one of the lowest recorded, with water levels approximately 15 meters below maximum capacity. If levels continue to fall, the Vltava River Basin authority will have to halt water release from the reservoir. This would require utilizing the Slapská Reservoir’s reserves to maintain minimal flow in the Vltava cascade system. The situation, predicted to occur around the beginning of September, is estimated to happen once every fifty years based on long-term simulations. Authorities report current inflow at 13 cubic meters per second and a potential gate closure if the water level drops another 3.5 meters. The low water levels raise concerns about water management in the region.
