The Czech Republic is considering making the operation of illegal senior care homes a criminal offense, moving beyond current penalties of fines. Currently, operators often declare bankruptcy and restart their businesses after receiving fines, allowing them to continue operating illegally. Officials estimate dozens of such unregistered facilities exist across the country. This change is partly prompted by an ongoing investigation in the Tabor region, highlighted by Czech Television. Domov Mutice, a senior care home, is facing a potential maximum fine of two million Czech crowns for operating without proper registration. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs is preparing legislation to address this issue and protect vulnerable seniors.
