Czech Railways is investing nearly 90 million CZK to install cameras in over 50 commuter trains operating in Prague and Central Bohemia. The initiative aims to deter vandalism, particularly graffiti, which has caused significant damage and cleanup costs. This year alone, the railway company has dealt with 150 cases of vandalism. Removing graffiti requires substantial resources, including 40 kilograms of paint remover and approximately 2,000 liters of water per train. Last year, over 400 trains were vandalized, resulting in nearly 20 million CZK in damages. Each train will be equipped with a total of 42 cameras – 12 external, 28 internal, and 2 in the engineer’s cabin – to enhance security and evidence gathering.
