The Czech government has confirmed Prime Minister Andrej Babiš will lead the Czech delegation to the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara. This decision follows a disagreement with President Petr Pavel, who maintains that, according to diplomatic protocol, the head of state should lead such a delegation. Babiš had requested Pavel reconsider his participation, a request Pavel declined. Opposition MP Miroslav Ševčík criticized the government’s willingness to include the President at all, arguing they should have opposed a preliminary injunction from the Constitutional Court. Another MP, Pavel Žáček, stated the Prime Minister “lost” by allowing the dispute to escalate and supporting attacks against the President, deeming it a significant political error. The situation has drawn commentary from political analysts Martin Čaban and Martin Komárek.
