A Czech court has ruled that the Ministry of Interior violated the rights of the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) movement by including it in a report on extremism and hate speech for the first half of 2023. The ruling, issued by the District Court for Prague 7, is not yet final and can be appealed. The SPD had challenged its inclusion in the report, arguing that it was unlawful. While the court found a violation of rights, it did not order the Ministry to issue an apology to the SPD. The Ministry has the option to appeal the decision to the Prague Municipal Court. SPD lawyer Adam Batuna stated the movement will not appeal if the Ministry chooses not to. This case highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the monitoring of political movements and freedom of speech in the Czech Republic.
