Czech cities are experiencing increasing amounts of litter around public bins and recycling containers. Despite high recycling rates – over 90 kilograms of waste sorted per person last year – bin capacity is struggling to keep up, particularly in Prague. A key issue is the improper disposal of waste, with citizens placing unsuitable items at collection points. Prague is implementing technological solutions, including sensors in bins to report fullness, currently being tested in Prague 11 for glass containers. However, municipal authorities emphasize that proper waste disposal by citizens is crucial for addressing the problem. Effective waste collection relies on both infrastructure and responsible public behavior to maintain urban cleanliness. The problem demonstrates a need for continued focus on both waste management systems and public education.
