A Chinese investor has decided to relocate a planned factory from near Košice, Slovakia, to Morocco. The factory was initially projected to generate over 330 employment opportunities in the Košice region. However, prolonged delays in obtaining necessary approvals for the project in Slovakia instigated the shift in strategy. The investor cited the bureaucratic hurdles as the primary reason for moving the investment to Morocco, where the process is anticipated to be more efficient. This decision represents a loss for Slovakia’s manufacturing sector and potential job creation efforts. The relocation highlights the challenges faced in attracting and retaining foreign investment due to administrative obstacles. It remains to be seen what impact this will have on future foreign direct investment in Slovakia.
