In June 2016, fourteen children from low-income families in Moscow tragically drowned in Lake Säämäjärvi in Karelia, Russia. The children were attending a summer camp as a donation from the Moscow Department of Labour and Social Protection. Before being assigned the case, the children’s lawyer, Dmitri Lapin, reported having a premonitory dream. One of the drowning children, 12-year-old Vsevolod Zaslonov, reportedly cried out for help, pleading to be saved while in the water. The incident remains a deeply sorrowful event, highlighting the vulnerability of the children and the circumstances surrounding the camp trip. The details emerged as the tenth anniversary of the tragedy is remembered.
