A new report from the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority reveals child welfare workers are facing increasingly challenging and potentially violent work environments. The report, following inspections within the child welfare system, highlights high work pressure, intense emotional demands, and a significant risk of violence and threats. Alarmingly, nearly 80% of inspected organizations have not conducted comprehensive risk assessments to protect employees from these dangers. Furthermore, one-third of those inspected have failed to provide necessary training to staff on managing violent or threatening situations. The findings indicate a systemic lack of preparedness and protection for frontline workers in the Norwegian child welfare services. Authorities are now urged to address these deficiencies and prioritize employee safety. The report underscores the need for improved safety protocols and increased support for those working with vulnerable individuals and families.
