Hundreds of migrants demonstrated on the beach in Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in Morocco, demanding asylum from the Spanish government. Simultaneously, Moroccan authorities arrested hundreds attempting to enter Ceuta by land and sea. The protest involves some of the thousands of migrants who reached Ceuta in early July, following a surge of approximately 72,000 people—a crossing that resulted in at least 141 deaths. Demonstrators displayed Spanish flags and signs pleading for asylum and expressing fear of returning to Morocco. Ceuta’s healthcare system is now severely strained, with reports of exhaustion among medical staff and migrants suffering from conditions like diarrhea, scabies, and heatstroke, often forced to sleep outdoors. While the Health Minister acknowledges the pressure, she insists healthcare for local residents hasn't been impacted and emphasizes the need for safe migrant housing. Additionally, aid workers have reported five cases of rape among the migrant population.
