An MRC party militant from Sangmélima has petitioned the sub-prefect of Yaoundé IV in Cameroon to revoke authorization for a planned convention on October 17th. Cyrille Edou, the militant, is contesting the legitimacy of the convention’s organizers, citing a lack of proper leadership within the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC). He argues that following Maurice Kamto’s resignation and move to Manidem in June 2025, a new leadership was not established as mandated by the party’s internal rules. Specifically, Edou points to articles 17(b) and 68(2) of the MRC statutes, stating the convention should have been called by a national president who currently does not exist. The petitioner believes that without a recognized president, the calling of the convention is invalid, rendering the party, in his view, “headless.” This legal challenge introduces a significant hurdle for the MRC just days before the scheduled event.
