A school bus driver in central Taiwan is accused of sexually assaulting five women after falsely presenting himself as a religious figure. Health authorities have confirmed all five victims have contracted HIV as a result of the assaults. The driver allegedly exploited a belief in spiritual healing to gain the women’s trust. Officials, including Deputy Director-General Lo Yi-chun, have stated that while the women will require lifelong antiretroviral therapy, achieving and maintaining an undetectable viral load (U=U) still allows for the possibility of having children. An investigation is underway, and authorities are working to provide comprehensive medical and psychological support to the victims. The case has raised concerns about public health and safety, as well as the vulnerability of individuals seeking spiritual guidance.
