Bulgaria’s Commission for Protection of Competition has issued fines to two companies for falsely marketing a product as butter. “Klass Food” Ltd. received a penalty of €186,319.87, while “Alpha SD” Ltd. was fined €123,369.62. The investigation revealed the companies were selling a product containing over 95% non-dairy fats, despite labelling it as butter. This practice violates Bulgarian competition laws regarding misleading consumers. The commission determined the firms engaged in unfair commercial practices by misrepresenting the product’s composition. The fines aim to deter similar deceptive practices within the food industry and protect consumer rights. Authorities continue to monitor the market for accurate product labelling.
