Fresh unrest has broken out in and around Belfast, Northern Ireland, with rioters clashing with police in multiple locations. Approximately 200 people gathered in Newtownabbey, north of Belfast, throwing stones, bricks, and bottles at officers and setting fires. Disturbances also occurred in Londonderry, with reports of arson. Police responded with water cannons in an attempt to disperse the crowds, describing the violence as “significant.” Schools and businesses closed early, and public transportation was suspended in anticipation of further disorder. The renewed violence follows a wave of unrest triggered by a stabbing attack on Monday that left a man seriously injured and sparked racially motivated disturbances, displacing over twenty people and causing extensive property damage.
